At the Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC 2025), Qualcomm unveiled the eighth generation 5G modem and RF solution X85, which integrates a multi band antenna system using a 4 × 4 MIMO architecture to achieve dual-mode connection between Sub-6GHz and millimeter wave, with a downlink peak rate exceeding 12.5Gbps, a 25% increase compared to the previous generation X75 platform. As a fourth generation AI enabled connectivity platform, this antenna is equipped with dynamic beamforming technology, which tracks signal direction in real-time through 16 phase control units. In testing in the dense urban area of Shinjuku, Tokyo, the communication success rate in signal obstruction areas increased from 58% to 98%.
Qualcomm also collaborated with ZTE to complete a demonstration of 390MHz+1024QAM four-way transmission technology, achieving a maximum transmission rate of 13.2Gbps in a laboratory environment. At present, this solution has been adopted by flagship Android models such as Xiaomi 15 Ultra and OPPO Find X7 Pro, supporting high bandwidth applications such as 4K ultra high definition live streaming and cloud gaming. Tests have shown that a 4GB 4K video can be downloaded in just 2.6 seconds, and cloud gaming screen latency is controlled within 15 milliseconds. Qualcomm Senior Vice President Anand Chandrasekhar stated that X85 is driving 5G-A from "technology demonstration" to "scenario implementation", accelerating the intelligent transformation of consumer electronics and industry applications.
